La Mer The Moisturizing Matte Lotion: Review

La Mer was one of my first ventures into high end skin care almost 20 years ago. I really didn't need La Mer when I was twenty but something about the allure of the brand is what draws you in to try it. I found the original Creme de La Mer to be way too heavy for me and at the time I went through multiple bottles of The Moisturizing Lotion instead. I lived in a dry climate and it seemed like the best for my skin at the time. I adored this lotion and used it for a number of years.

I have since branched out as I can't help myself and stay with one brand nor formula anymore. La Mer recently discontinued its two lotion formulas and replaced them both with a new version. I've tried both new formulas however, as it's summer, I'm going to start with reviewing The Moisturizing Matte Lotion. Details per La Mer:

Weightless, matte finish. NEW Moisturizing Matte Lotion defies the laws of moisture with healing hydration from Miracle BrothTM and a unique mattifying technology, to help soften away age, shine and pores. Uncover a freshly balanced complexion.

The texture is weightless and ultra light. Like a gel cream style lotion. The finish is matte. It has the most amazing velvety feel to it. It makes you just want to rub your hands all over your face because it's so soft and velvety. The scent is minimal and very La Mer. This lotion absorbs very quickly. I love the matte white porcelain style glass bottle. It's heavy weight and luxe. The pump allows you to dispense a full or partial pump. It takes about 1.5 pumps to cover my face well.

This lotion does have a moisturizing enough feel plus it's matte and perfect for--summer, hot and humid climates, or oily to combination skin types. This didn't break me out at all nor cause any adverse reactions of any kind. It helped keep oil at bay all day even in this humid Texas July summer. I had perfectly moisturized summer appropriate skin with a velvety matte finish. I will say this lotion almost acts a like a primer as well with it's velvety finish. Your makeup will just glide on after.

I loved to layer this over a light hydrating formula. It is glorious over Tata Harper's Illuminating Moisturizer. This was almost too dry for me on it's own. I needed a bit more. Layering this over a light lotion mattifies the skin, gives it the velvety finish and keeps the needed moisture in the skin. If you have combination to normal skin you might want to layer it. I don't know that I would recommend this for dry skin unless you wanted it as a matte primer over a regular face cream or lotion.
