The Gnarly Whale Beach Waves Thai Coconut & ALAFFIA Everyday Coconut Texture Spray: Review

4:28:00 PM

I have a huge love of texturizing hair products. Salt sprays are my favorite to add some volume and light waves to my hair. My hair in the back is wavy but in the front it's straight so I need to add salt sprays to the front to balance it out. I also love the easy volume that comes from a hair salt spray. I don't have time in the morning to do more than air dry my hair, so salt sprays are the best for me having any kind of hair style. I love a curling iron but just can't get up early enough to make myself use one. Five AM already comes too soon.

I'm always getting a new salt spray and testing them out. I grabbed two new ones a while back. I've been wanting to try The Gnarly Whale Beach Waves in Thai Coconut since I saw it in a magazine. It smells like milky coconut, the scent is very light, warm and pleasant. I approve. Get beachy hair anywhere with this all natural spray from The Gnarly Whale. Formula adds volume and subtle waves. Finished with a tropical, refreshing Thai Coconut scent. Ingredients: Water, Mediterranean sea salt, aloe vera gel, coconut oil, grapefruit seed extract and fragrance.

The other one I grabbed is the Everyday Coconut Texture Spray by ALAFFIA. I saw this one on sale at Urban Outfitters when I was grabbing The Gnarly Whale spray. Our texture spray gives hair the same full-body look it has after a day at the beach. Natural sea salt adds volume and shape, while Certified Fair Trade coconut water protects hair from drying out. For EveryDay use on all hair types.

Ingredients: Azadirachta indica (Neem) Leaf* Aqueous Extract, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Water*, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Aromatic Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Extract, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Ascorbic Acid. *Certified Fair Trade by IMO

The Everyday Coconut Texture Spray smells like citrus as it has a fair amount of neem extract. I use neem oil on my fruit trees to keep pests away naturally. Neem oil is also common in perfumes and it's a natural preservative. This isn't a strong salt spray. It leaves a hydrated feel to my hair and didn't add that much volume. Honestly it felt more like a hydrating spray than a salt texture spray. It left my hair glossy but with hardly any waves. It was a pass for me.

The Gnarly Whale is my favorite of the two. Love the Thai Coconut scent and it gave me pretty good waves without being oily or drying. I love the natural ingredients, nothing to worry about in that ingredient list. The Gnarly Whale reminds me of Herbivore Botanicals Sea Mist, Olivine Atelier Love + Salt Beach Hair and John Masters Organics Sea Mist. I talked about hair salt sprays here, herehere and here.
