Ouai Wave Spray: Review

7:36:00 PM

I've been using Ouai Wave Spray for a few months now. I will admit it wasn't my favorite at first. I had to figure out the right amount to apply and then I learned to love it. Details per OUAI & Sephora:

A weightless texture mist for effortlessly chic, undone hair. Infused with rice protein to add hold and memory for that "just got out of the ocean and my hair dried perfectly" look.

Infused with rice protein to add hold and memory for that perfect beachy look, this feather-light spray gives hair natural wave and body without any dryness or crunch. Sephora Style Tip: spritz it on damp or dry hair to activate natural waves, enhance texture, boost body, and give hair memory. This product is scented with Ouai No. 2 Fragrance, containing notes of Italian lemon, amber, and white musk.

The Wave Spray has a light yellow color and has a light floral scent. This is more than just a typical sea salt spray. In fact it's not a sea salt spray at all. It's a texturizing and wave spray using proteins. It doesn't have an oily texture, but does have an almost sticky feel to it. This is why I didn't like it at first. I overdid it multiple times using the same amount as a sea salt spray, and it left me with a sticky dirty feel. It's never drying nor crunchy feeling, it just can be too sticky. If you apply the right amount the stickiness does go away a few hours later. It absorbs or sets into the hair and that sticky feeling goes away.

What I love about this one is that for a texture spray it holds well. Most salt sprays look great while your hair is wet or just dried but by the end of the day your hair is drier and flat. The sticky part of this wave spray adds a certain hold to the waves that lasts all day. I don't find it drying, it's not glossy like salt sprays with oil in them either. It is just a texture spray that adds waves and holds it all day.

You just need to learn the right amount to use for your hair. Give it a chance and see how it does a few hours in. Start light the first time then add more once you know you're not overdoing it. I tend to add a light spray, then add a touch more to my front as it's less wavy than the back naturally. It's earned a place in my permanent rotation for texture sprays. It's even in the top few I reach for day after day.
