Zelens Lip Enhancer Naturelle: Review

1:55:00 PM

Zelens is one of my favorite skincare brands and I love pretty much everything Zelens. I'm usually not into the lip products that turn colors due to your pH. I skipped the first Zelens Lip Enhancer as it looked too pink/magenta. Then the Zelens Lip Enhancer Naturelle came out which is supposed to be the nude version. Details per Zelens:

Ultimate lip treatment that helps achieve perfectly refined, irresistibly sensual lips. Visibly enhances colour, volume, moisture and definition. Infused with antioxidants from green Shiso leaves to help shield against environmental assaults.

This smells like warm and sweet vanilla and has no discernible taste. It comes in a screw top silver case. It's nice as your lipstick can't come apart in your purse. It has a muted orange nude tint, but starts out clear on the lips. It promptly changes to a medium nude pink. No shimmer, just a clear glossy medium nude pink tint. I find it moisturizing but it needs reapplying every hour. I found it comfortable to wear and it's a nice formula to apply. I could have slapped it on every hour and been happy.

Only downside, the color starts off as a nice nude pink tint but after applying multiple times the intensity turns up and by the end of the day I end up with a bright magenta shade, not a nude pink. This seems to work really well once. However, the more you apply the more the color intensifies and turns into a deep magenta. It's not a heavy enough formula to be able to apply just once and maybe touch up 4 times a day which would minimize the intensity of the color changing effect. I alternated it with a clear balm just to be able to keep the intensity down.

This effect may not happen to everyone who uses this, I tend to have bad luck with color changing products. They always turn this deep bright magenta that isn't flattering on me. If you have good luck with these types of formulas you might love this one as the basic lip balm formula is great. I want this in a regular clear non color changing formula. I would go through it by the ton.

Lip Enhancer contains 15 active ingredients

Palmitoyl oligopeptide: A natural tripeptide coupled with a fatty acid. Redensifies lip tissues by stimulating the production of collagen (+351% after 24 hours) and glycosaminoglycans (+146% after 48 hours). Enhances the volume and outline of the lips (+40% after 29 days). Improves lip hydration and reduces the appearance of furrows.

Tripeptide: This potent peptide stimulates natural collagen production. It activates Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF), one of the key players in modulating tissue repair and remodelling.

Hyaluronic acid: A key component of connective tissue. Zelens uses a low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid to restore moisture and plump lips.

Phospholipids: Major building components in the structure of any cellular membrane essential for all vital physiological processes. These natural skin-identical ingredients demonstrate moisturising, restructuring and protective properties.

Chondroitin sulfate: A natural molecule present in connective tissue cross-linking with the collagen. Demonstrates firming properties to give the matrix a distinct 3D structure.

Vegetable butters: Contains 3 natural butters- Wild mango butter, Cocoa butter and Shea butter.

Wild mango butter- Derived from kernels of wild mango (Irvingia Gabonensis). Provides superior moisture, forms a protective film on the lips and restores their softness and suppleness.

Cocoa butter- Obtained from the Cocoa seeds (Theobroma Cacao). Demonstrates excellent moisturising properties. Increases the skin's softness and suppleness.

Shea butter- A natural lipid extracted from the seeds of Shea tree or Karite' (Butyrospermum Parkii). Shea butter has remarkable moisturising and restructuring properties.

Pomegranate sterols: Natural lipid molecules extracted from pomegranate (Punica Granatum). Improve moisture and enhance barrier function. Provide excellent shine to the lips.

Shiso leaf (Perilla, Japanese mint): Rich in polyphenols (particularly Rosmarinic acid) and triterpenoids (particularly Ursolic acid), natural molecules that demonstrate antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-allergic bioactivities. Shiso leaf acts as a powerful antioxidant defending skin from free radical damage. It helps to prevent skin reactivity and soothes sensitive skin. Shiso leaf is well-known in Kampo medicine for its strong detox properties.

Yeast: A natural extract from the live yeast cells (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae). Increases cell respiration and metabolism, stimulates oxygen consumption and helps tissue repair and wound healing. Demonstrates anti-inflammatory and protective properties.

Beeswax (Cera alba): A natural wax produced from the honeycomb of honey bees. Beeswax has emollient, soothing and softening properties.

Candelilla wax: Obtained from the leaves of Candelilla (Euphorbia cerifera), a plant growing in northern Mexico. Candelilla has excellent emollient properties and helps to provide a protective, moisture-resistant environment for skin.

Vitamin E: An antioxidant with a key role in the protection of cellular membranes from free radicals. It is the major antioxidant in the human epidermis with strong protective effects against UV-induced skin damage.

Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides:
Natural lipid molecules derived from coconut oil. Have excellent emollient and skin-conditioning properties.
