Deciem The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2%: Review

On to the next Deciem The Ordinary product for review. The Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% is a mild lactic acid serum exfoliant. Details per Deciem:

Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid that exfoliates the skin. This 5% formulation offers very mild exfoliation and is supported with a purified Tasmanian pepperberry known to reduce signs of inflammation and sensitivity that is often associated with exfoliation.

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in colour seasonally and this colour variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time.

Contraindications: Lactic Acid should not be used on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin. Please refer to additional sun protection note and other warnings in provided Directions.

Lactic acid is an AHA or Alpha Hydroxy Acid. AHA exfoliate the skin which helps even your skin tone and reduce wrinkles. It also helps add moisture to the skin. In general lactic acid is less harsh than glycolic acid and is considered the more pregnancy safe AHA. Those of you who use Sunday Riley Good Genes use a strong version of lactic acid. The Ordinary 5% formula is a lower concentration or most gentle strength of a lactic acid serum. I thought I would try this first then move on to the 10% version.

It has a melon tint to it, a slippery liquid texture and an awesome melon scent. It's hydrating because it has hyaluronic acid as well. Unlike Good Genes which smells like cat pee, this smells like melons. Bonus. It's really gentle and doesn't sting at all. Because it is so gentle it wasn't that effective for me, I'm used to stronger acid formulas. This is good for anyone with sensitive skin or just starting out in AHA serums. For $6.50 for a 30ml bottle you can't go wrong trying it. I will be grabbing the 10% version now and report on that in the future.
