My Favorite Fall Fragrances

3:06:00 PM

Fall and summer are my two favorite fragrance seasons. What makes a fragrance belong to a season is somewhat personal preference, as I do wear a beachy scent even in the winter if I like. In general, fragrances have a season they fit best in. Most of the fragrances I own are in the summer or fall category. These are all niche fragrances which is what I tend to gravitate towards, which tend to be harder to find and more expensive. I just find them so much more interesting than the department store fragrances.

Miller Harris Rose en Noir is an earthy rose scent. It's not a sweet or light one, it more like a deeper, spicy rose. If you can't tolerate traditional rose scents this might be up your alley. Top notes: raspberry, violet leaf Egypt, petit grain citronnier. Middle notes: Rose Turkey, Poivre noir, nutmeg Java. Base notes: patchouli Indomesia, vetiver Haiti, tabac noir France, ambrette seed. Miller Harris is a British perfumery that sadly is not sold in the US anymore. I have to get it online from somewhere like Escentual.com or thefragrancecounter.com, oddly net-a-porter US started carrying a few of the scents I saw. All Miller Harris fragrances are EDP and have great silage and longevity.

Miller Harris L'Air de Rien is a musky, dirty unique scent. It was made for Jane Birkin and is supposed to be about dusty liabraries and old books. It's more rounded than that, it's warm, light enough, has a bit of citrus, vanilla, musk. It's one of my favorites by Miller Harris. The notes are: neroli Tunisia, oak moss, patchouli Indonesia, vanilla bourbon, amber, musk. I love it because it's light enough to not be overpowering, feminine enough yet has a dirty quality which I have found I love in fragrances. That 'dirty or human quality' makes me feel like it's a you but better scent.

Ormonde Jayne Woman is a woody feminine scent. It's deep, woody, slightly sweet and spicy, complex and unique. It's not like anything I have currently. Per their website: "Beginning and ending with the unique scent of Black Hemlock absolute-rarely used in such luscious quality and quantity-this utterly hypnotic, unconventional and mysterious woody essence is combined with jasmine and violet absolute to create a dusky, seductive perfume." Top notes: cardamom, coriander and grass oil. Middle notes: Black hemlock, violet and jasmine absolute. Base notes: Vetiver, cedar wood, amber and sandalwood. Ormonde Jayne is a British perfumery, but they do ship to the US. I'm a fan of their 10ml travel sprays versus big bottles. Always great silage and longevity.

Mona di Orio Orio is a woody oriental that's sadly discontinued. It's got floral, woods and a touch of sweet in it. It's pretty powerful, great silage and longevity. Fragrantica says it's unisex but it feels more feminine to me. It is down to earth for a floral because of the wood. Top notes: mandarin orange, sweet pea and spices. Middle notes: jasmine, olibanum, heliotrope, ylang-ylang and vetiver. Base notes: immortelle, cedar, amber and musk.

Miller Harris Fleur Oriental is a spicy oriental scent for women. I used to love Opium until I found this. Fleur Oriental is more complex and less powdery than Opium. It has great silage and longevity. If you like spicy orientals this one is worth hunting down. Top notes: bergamot Italy, orange flower Tunisia. Middle notes: spicy carnation, rose Turkey, heliotrope. Base notes: vanilla bourbon, benzoin abs Siam, amber, labdanum resin Spain, musk.

Hermes Eau d'Hermes is one of their original colognes. It's unisex and has a sweaty, spicy, leather, citrus, dirty aroma. Which doesn't sound great for women, but it's a really great sexy skin scent. I love scents like that. It's light and more for you than others. It's hard to find an exact list of notes for Hermes scents, I find they vary by review. So I'm not sure of the exact notes for this one.

Hermes Poivre Samarcande is part of the Hermanessence line, which is more exclusive and only sold online and in boutiques. It's also more expensive. It's a light, warm, woody, spicy unisex EDT. This is another of those sweaty, dirty, spicy skin scents I like. Hermes tends to make a lot of them. Notes are: pepper, chili, oak, cedar, Chinese moss and musk.

Hermes Eau de Gentiane Blanche is a unisex earthy cologne, it works the best for women out of all the Hermes colognes(with the exception of Poivre Samarcande) pictured. It's light but has a softer feel to it. There's musk and it's a bit dry which keeps it from being powdery. Notes include: musk, gentian, iris, frankincense. This and Eau d'Hermes are my favorites of the colognes. It actually lasts fairly well for a cologne and Hermes, usually their scents are lighter and don't last as long. I don't own a Hermes fragrance that's overpowering. They're more skin scents.

Hermes Eau de Narcisse Bleu is a light, green, floral, woody cologne. It's unisex, light and the only notes I can find listed are: narcissus and woods.

Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte is a citrus, woody, spicy cologne. It's a deeper, greener version of Eau d'Hermes. It is unisex, though it's not really feminine at all. Depends if you like these types of scents. I think this must be discontinued as it's not on the Hermes website. It's notes are: orange, amber, patchouli, basil and cedar.
